Refinery Safety Orientation Continuing Education Class Enrollment
RSO Class Overview
Refinery Safety Orientation (RSO) training is now being required at many refineries in order to work on-site. The Kern County Electrical JATC is an approved RSO provider and will be offering classes to Journeyman and Apprentices for the upcoming refinery work in Kern County.
The topics that will be covered in this class include but are not limited to:
Refinery Safety Overview (8 Hours)
Emergency Preparedness
Personal Protective Equipment
Hearing Loss Prevention
Confined Space Hazards
Basic Principles of Petroleum Refining (4 hours)
Crude Oil Extraction and Composition
Refinery Processes and Configurations
Refinery Hazards and Emergency Response Procedures
Electrical Safety Training (8 Hours)
Electrical Hazard Awareness
Electric Shock, Arc Flash, and Arc Blast
Introduction to NFPA 70E
The class will be held at the Kern County Electrical Apprenticeship for three (3) classes. This class is open to ONLY JOURNEYMAN AND APPRENTICES and will count for continuing education hours. Upon passing the exams you will be given an RSO certification that will be good for two (2) years from the class completion date.
*The RSO Certification that you will receive from the class is an approved safety certification with the state of California. Our RSO certification may not be accepted by some refineries. Please keep that in mind when signing up for this class.*

Class 2 – Saturday, June 21, 2025, 8:00am-4:30pm
Class 3 – Sunday, June 22, 2025, 8:00am-4:30pm
Class Deposit Terms
ATTENTION: ALL JW CLASSES REQUIRE A $100 DEPOSIT TO BE PAID ONLINE VIA CREDIT/DEBIT CARD.

The $100 class deposit is required to enroll in all continuing education classes. The $100 class deposit will be refunded upon your attending the class. If you do not attend the class, the deposit will not be refunded to you. After enrollment, if you submit the cancellation form seven (7) days prior to the class start date, your deposit will be refunded to you. Any cancellations after seven (7) days prior to the class start date will result in your deposit being processed by the apprenticeship office.
