UA PROGRAM

HOW DOES THE PROGRAM WORK?

The Unindentured Apprentice (UA) Program allows you to work as an Apprentice with the Kern County Electrical Apprenticeship while you go through the hiring process. When a contractor submits a request to the Apprenticeship Office for Apprentices, we will notify active UA’s that there is a job available. These jobs may last weeks or months depending on what stage the project is in at that moment in time. You will be performing electrical work on these job sites such as underground, routing and terminating conductors, mounting boxes and solar panels, operating forklifts and more.

Why Work As A UA?

Working as an Unindentured Apprentice gives you the opportunity to gain some work experience in the electrical industry. You will be working with Journeyman Wireman from IBEW Local 428, other IBEW Locals, as well as our apprentices. Also, you may be able to obtain letters of recommendation from the people you work with on the job site that you can bring to the Apprenticeship Office for consideration during the interview process.

How Much Does It Pay?

The Unindentured Apprenticeship position pays the same wage as a first-period apprentice which is $24.14 per hour. You will receive full medical and dental benefits, with no additional cost to you, after you have worked your first 300 hours.
